dinner jackets and fancy shoes optional.

We are a reservations-only cooking school and dining space in the heart of old Beijing. Chinese-American culinary author Jen Lin-Liu opened Black Sesame Kitchen in 2008 to promote understanding of Chinese food and to create a convivial setting for socializing and exchange between China and the rest of the world. We invite you to our open kitchen and traditional courtyard setting to experience the many wonders of Chinese cuisine…

This month’s featured dish

Salt & Pepper Squid. Freshly caught and scored squid, deep fried with a salt, pepper, chili, and Sichuan peppercorn seasoning, tossed with fresh coriander.

We serve Chinese cuisine the way it’s meant to be eaten — communally — with friends from around the world.
